What is a pre-paid card?

It’s like a debit card, but it’s loaded to a predefined amount and can be re-loaded as and when required.

You will only be able to make purchases with the card when there are sufficient funds on your prepayment card, and you will not be able to spend more than this amount.

The prepaid card works just like any debit card. If you wish to buy a product or service, you can use the card in person or online.

Does it have a credit limit?

No, it’s not a credit card and carries no credit limit. You cannot spend more money than is held on the card account.

How do I get help if I have questions about my card or MJ account in general?

If you have questions related to your card reach out to our Customer Service Team via in-app chat.

How can I top up my Money Jar account?

There currently are three methods to top up your Money Jar account:

  1. via Bank Transfer – transfer of funds from your bank account into your MJ Master Jar

  2. via Debit Card Top Up – transfer of funds from your Debit Card into your MJ Prepaid Card

  3. Instant Transfer – free and instant transfer from other MJ users (P2P transfer)

Can I set up a Direct Debit via Money Jar?

At the moment, we are unable to support direct debits. This feature is on our roadmap though. Please bear with us!

Are there any fees for using my card?

No. Using Money Jar during the pilot phase is free. We reserve the right to introduce fees after the pilot phase.

Can I change the PIN assigned to me?

Yes, you can change your PIN at any ATM.

I have forgotten my PIN, what do I do?

If you have forgotten or lost your PIN, you can reveal your PIN via your Money Jar mobile app or call the IVR number listed below and retrieve your PIN.

What should I do if my card is lost or stolen?

If your card has been lost or stolen or you believe its security has been compromised, you must block your card via the Money Jar mobile app and inform Customer Services team as soon as possible via the online chat during office hours or via email.

How long will it take to replace the card?

It normally takes 6 working days but can take up to 12 working days depending on when it has been requested.

What happens if I change my address?

You must notify us about the change and we will update the MJ system accordingly. We may ask you to provide a proof of address.

Does my card expire?

Yes, you can find the expiry date on the front of your card. If your card is about to expire, and is still active, please contact the Customer Service Team via live chat if you have not received a new card. Any balance remaining on the card will be transferred to the new one before it’s despatched to you.

What happens if I no longer want to use my prepaid card or want to close my Money Jar account?

If you wish to cancel your prepaid card or no longer wish to use Money Jar, you can block the card and delete your account from our system directly from the Money Jar mobile app, My Profile section. Alternatively, email us at support@mymoneyjar.com and we will guide you through the process.

What if the amount of my purchase is more than my available balance?

In this case, your purchase will be declined and you will be charged a decline fee. In order to process the purchase you must wait until the card has sufficient funds.

Is the card safe and secure to use?

As with all credit and debit cards we use, every precaution needs to be taken to keep the card safe and your PIN secure. Please refer to the cardholder terms and conditions. The prepaid card aims to reduce the need to carry or hold large amounts of cash.

What if I have a problem?

If you have a query about the card itself or you have an unknown transaction on your card account, or a transaction has been declined but you still have funds on your card account then please contact the Customer Services team via in-app chat.

Can I withdraw cash using the Prepaid card?

Yes, you can use your card for ATM withdrawals to a maximum of €750 per day, €1,000 per month, or until your balance reaches zero.

What is an IVR?

Interactive Voice Response (IVR) is an automated telephony system that you can interact with using the numbers on your keypad, allowing you to access select functions.

Why do I need to call the IVR?

Certain functions* can be carried out using the IVR. These include:

  • Balance Enquiry*: Check the current available balance on your prepaid card.

  • PIN Retrieval/Recall*: Your PIN is no longer sent using surface mail. Surface mail can be intercepted and is therefore not secure. To obtain your PIN, you can use the IVR. You can retrieve your PIN from the IVR at any time if you have forgotten it.

  • Block Card*: You can place your card in a blocked status if it is lost/stolen/misplaced. This will stop any funds being taken from the card, although funds can still be loaded to the card.

Note* - you can process all of the above functions (Balance Inquiry, PIN Retrieval and Block/Unblock Card via your Money Jar mobile application. We recommend you use the app.

What number do I dial to access the IVR?

You can call the IVR on 01 903 9548.

This number is available 24 hours a day, every day.

I have received my prepaid card, now what do I do?

Using the card is very simple. However, before you start using the card you must do the following steps:

  • Sign the signature strip on the reverse of the card

  • Activate the pre-paid card in app or by using the telephone via IVR

  • Obtain your PIN via the app or through the telephone via IVR
